Who Does John Piper Listen To?

In a day when we have the privilege of listening to any preacher in the world at the push of a button I find it interesting to know who some of the best preachers in the church listen to. In this video John Piper answers the question, “Who do you listen to?” I think the answer he gives is interesting for two reasons. First, both ministers he mentions are highly doctrinal preachers. Second, both men, he explains, were highly serious men. Listen for yourself:

  1. Michael says:

I have benefited tremendously from listening to Derek Thomas. If I were stuck on a desert island with only one person’s sermons and a MP3 player it would be Derek Thomas’ sermons.

  2. Nicholas T. Batzig says:

I agree! Derek Thomas is a very gifted preacher. I have come to appreciate different aspects of different preachers. For theological depth and insight I like Sinclair Ferguson. For passion and affection mixed with love for Christ I like Piper and Mahaney. For exposition and preaching style I like Derek Thomas and Edward Donnelly. Of course I have benefited tremendously from the preaching of Phil Ryken, Al Martin, Joel Beeke, Ligon Duncan, John Greer, Iain Hamilton, and a host of other gifted ministers. I am thankful to Christ for His gifts to the church.

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naïve. (Romans 16:17-18)
